Consumption of Energy Drinks in University Students

Abstract

Energy drinks are products that are consumed to reduce the feeling of tiredness and promote an active state, they contain mainly caffeine, glucose, glucoronolactone, taurine, guarana B1 vitamins (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine). The objective of this research was to determine the frequency of the consumption of energy drinks in the students of the Universidad Mayor Real and Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca and describe the possible adverse effects. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative study conducted in university students through a survey, with a sample of 367 between male and female from 17 to 30 years, within the 4 health, economic and financial, social and humanities and technological areas and Agrarian Obtaining the results of the surveyed students who have consumed energy drinks with 69.21%; with a frequency of consumption of 28% 2 to 3 times per week and 39% 2 to 3 times per month, which where students consume most during the partial with 18.80% and after doing some sport with 16.89%, that the most chosen brands to consume are red bull with 30.25% and power with 14.99%, finding effects that cause according to students is insomnia with 17.89% and addiction with 25 , 07%, respectively 83% if you mix energy drinks with alcohol.
