Abstract

The epistemology of communication is linked to the work of semiotics, since social reality is constructed from signs. The discourses circulating in academic spaces are constructions that must be analyzed through knowledge production processes, using research methodologies and theoretical paradigms. In this sense, communication builds intangible imaginaries and its presence permeates all spheres of social life: cultural, educational, political, power relations, technology, etc. The general objective was to establish the theoretical-methodological premises of Eurocentric knowledge in communication programs at universities in Santa Cruz city. Specific objectives included: Developing a theoretical framework connecting Eurocentric thought with critical communication research in teaching-learning processes; Conducting a historical review - origin, evolution and current status - of hegemonic knowledge; and Establishing a reference framework for communication programs at universities in Santa Cruz. A mixed qualitative-quantitative methodological approach with explanatory design was used. Data collection techniques included: bibliographic mapping applied to syllabi, surveys of 100 students, and in-depth interviews with 19 professors using non-probabilistic sampling. Main findings showed: Hegemony of prestigious Eurocentric knowledge projecting a particular lifestyle; Some professors working with indigenous knowledge and gender approaches in marginal positions, unrecognized in official syllabi; Of 19 interviewed professors, 10 were engaged in research work, with a predominance of 8 women. Philosophy Doctor in Education with focus on Complexity and Transdisciplinary Research. Master's in Educational Psychology. Master's in Strategic Communication. Social Communicator from UAGRM. Author of books: "Towards the Democratization of Bolivian Cinema and Audiovisual Media", "MAD - Mask Marketing Digital", "Epistemology of Communication".
