Abstract

Outbreaks of human Chagas disease (HD) have been reported in the Amazon for many years, mostly involving
wild triatomines of the genus Rhodnius. More than 20 years ago, the first autochthonous case of acute CHD was
identified in the tropical region of Alto Beni (500-800 masl), department of La Paz, Bolivia, free of the main
vector Triatoma infestans.
