Abstract

This thesis defines informal trade as any commercial or service activity that occupies streets and sidewalks arbitrarily, appropriating public space. This phenomenon has been consolidated in the Ladera Oeste of La Paz, with more than 8,500 merchants occupying 7 km² registered by the Municipal Government. The study seeks to explain how informal trade, by occupying public space, affects property values through externalities.
