Abstract

The video thoracoscopy has assumed an important role in managing a variety of surgical diseases of the chest. This technique, which was designed primarily for diagnostic purposes, has subsequently come to be used for therapeutic applications. In our experience of 10 years, we performed 82 procedures in different pathologies, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, thoracic, in which the technique of thoracoscopy in 61 patients and 21 procedures with video-assisted thoracoscopy. We describe our experience and especially the strategies for using video thoracoscopy (VTC) procedure is completed with two or more access ports and video-assisted thoracoscopy (VATS) using thoracoscopy as well as small incisions less than 10 cm complete the process according to pre-operative tactics. We had no complications or deaths attributable to these procedures. The conclusionAnother advantage is that the visual and instrumental exploration extended and amplified the different organs is larger and completely himself and because of the small incisions approach and the use of minimally invasive instruments and maneuvers post-operative pain is less with minimal hassle, showing a rapid functional recovery with excellent cosmetic healing which has also allowed a reduced hospital stay. Therefore, in our environment we are now using video thoracoscopy and video assisted thoracoscopy for the treatment of most patients with surgical diseases of the chest.
