Abstract

The article addresses specialization and innovation in SMEs in the tourism sector of Sucre. The objective of which is to analyze how these strategies influence SMEs, observing what benefits and obstacles they generate due to their implementation, a qualitative-quantitative methodology was used, using a survey as an instrument to collect data from small and medium-sized companies, mainly accommodations and travel agencies. The findings indicate that, despite Sucre’s rich cultural offering, SMEs face significant obstacles, such as lack of economic resources and knowledge, that limit their ability to implement specialization and innovation strategies. The research concludes that these strategies are essential to differentiate themselves in a competitive market and improve the tourist experience. The creation of intervention programs that support SMEs in their specialization and innovation process is recommended, which could result in an increase in the attraction of tourists and a positive impact on the local economy.
