Abstract

PPCMis not acommon disease; however,it has ahigh mortality rate, rising even morewhen diagnosisand treatmentare not performedearly.The first descriptions ofthe companywere madearound the1870s, when Virchowand Porack described aprocess of myocardial degenerationin patientswho diedin the postpartum period. The clinicalcase we presentis apuerperalpatientaged 23was admittedto theinternal medicine wardtransferred fromObstetric-GynecologicHospitalwith a history ofpregnancy andcesarean delivery, diagnosed with respiratory failure secondary to pneumoniawherean echocardiogram permitted to makea definitive diagnosis and appropriate therapy. The issueis reviewed andgiven their lowrate andpoor prognosisandclinicalcaseis presentedresolution.
