Abstract

Preterm birth despite all efforts, remains a major clinical problem, being an essential component of perinatal morbidity and mortality.

A retrospective study of 292 patients who had preterm delivery in San Pedro Claver Hospital with the ultimate goal of identifying strategies to prevent spontaneous preterm birth and identify risk factors was performed.

The incidence is low in relation to others studies, spontaneous onset in 52% of cases and their relationship with advanced maternal age Draw attention the gestational age determination of newborn, because only 55.5% were premature and 44.5% were products to finished. Corticosteroid administration It was decisive in the welfare of the newborn, 62% of preterm infants were referred to joint accommodation and only the 35% were admitted to the service of neonatology.
