Abstract

This statistical study reveals the most common diseases in our environment, the importance, tenure, descent and increased level maxillofacial injuries, according to differences anatomo_patológico diagnosis, whereas malignant and benign conditions of the region, and this not have statistics showing the increase in these diseases, we saw the need for this study.

It is a work that aims to demonstrate the decrease or increase of diseases, prevalence in sex, according anatomo_patológico diagnostic differences, we will know the most common malignant and benign diseases of the maxillofacial region.

A retrospective study was conducted, data was selected biopsies in patients, conducted at the Institute of Anatomy Pathology of the city of Sucre, January 2000 to December 2010. Were compared and classified by histopathological report.

Of a total of 504 (100%) patients underwent biopsy of the maxillofacial region, showed the prevalence of pathologies January 2000 to December 2010, cysts and benign tumors (46.8%), malignant tumors (cancer) (30,1%), infection and inflammation (16%), other (negative neoplasms (6.9% damage), the predominance of females 264 (52.3%) in 240 male (47.6%), the study shows the most frequent pathology, squamous cell carcinoma (52.6%) between malignant granulomas (16.6%) lesion between benign lesions, inflammations and infections (43.2%) are inflammations inespecificas other (negative for neoplasia lesions) (6.9%).

In conclusion we showed that there were significant differences between malignant and benign tumors, show important statistics to take into account the time of diagnosis, showing the frequency of malignant lesions of the maxillofacial region, it is necessary to perform the treatment, based on the clinical and pathologic diagnosis of lesions.
