Abstract

Studies conducted worldwide indicate that Nifedipine is the first choice tocolytic for preterm labor, the lack of adverse effects of oral administration and low cost.

A comparative study of two drugs (Nifedipine and Ritodrine) medicated patients with preterm labor between 28 and 36 weeks in the San Pedro Claver Hospital during 2011 and 2013 efforts, with the aim of comparing the efficacy, safety was performed and 100% of patients in the nifedipine group showed no adverse effects, while 50 % Ritodrine group had side effects. We found that the inhibition time was premature uterine contractions for Nifedipine regarding Ritodrine; however the proportion of women who gave birth after 48 hours of starting treatment was proportionalin both groups.
