Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine how the use of technology intervenes in the nurse-patient relationship, for nursing care at the San Antonio de los Sauces Hospital in the municipality of Monteagudo. The methodology used is descriptive, transversal with quantitative and qualitative analysis. The unstructured interview and a survey were applied to the nursing graduates.

The main results consider technology as a facilitator of interaction and the need for interaction, placing technology as a means and not as an end. It reveals the irreplaceable nature of the nurse, as well as shows that technology is not essential; if technology does not exist at the right time, the nursing staff acts immediately with manual resources in an attempt to solve the problems encountered. The most important factors involved in the nurse-patient interaction were determined, including: cultural differences and the critical conditions of the patient. The study concludes with elements of reflection on the interaction mediated by technology, it is expected that it will contribute to the nursing professional considering technology as an aid in the performance of their functions.
