Abstract

Basic Life Support is fundamental for healthcare personnel, as it includes essential techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the management of patients in cardiorespiratory arrest. This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge of nursing staff regarding the application of Basic Life Support in the management of patients in cardiorespiratory arrest at San Antonio de los Sauces Hospital, Monteagudo, in February 2025. This was a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study, in which a questionnaire on Basic Life Support knowledge was administered to nursing staff. The results reveal that nursing staff knowledge is average, with an average of 53%. Deficiencies were identified in key aspects such as the correct CPR sequence, proper chest compression technique, ventilation, the Basic Life Support sequence, AED, and airway clearance, both in patients with and without suspected cervical injury. Therefore, it is concluded that, although there are some strengths in knowledge, the results suggest that outdated and inadequate practices persist that are not aligned with the recommendations of the American Heart Association.
