Abstract

Introduction: Cerebrovascular disease (CVD) is a global health problem, it is the third cause of death, the first cause of disability in adults and the second cause of dementia. Approximately 80% of all strokes are ischemic and it is estimated that 40% are caused by extracranial carotid artery stenosis. Objective: To evaluate nursing care during the acute phase of stroke in patients treated in the emergency department of San Antonio de los Sauces Monteagudo Hospital in February 2025. Methods: The methodology used was quantitative and descriptive, seeking to statistically analyze, describe and measure nursing care in the acute phase of stroke. It was carried out on the total population of nursing staff working in the emergency department. The instrument used was the questionnaire using the survey technique consisting of 12 related multiple choice questions where it was possible to collect information on the sociodemographic and professional characteristics of the nursing staff working in the emergency service, response time of the nursing staff in stroke and the action carried out by nursing staff in the care of patients with stroke. Results: It was identified that 70% of the nursing staff working in the emergency room do not have any type of postgraduate degree, also 70% of the person mentions that one of the factors that affects a timely response in care is work overload, among the actions carried out by nursing staff to avoid complications in patients with stroke in the acute phase, 60% mention that it is to keep the patient in absolute rest. Conclusion: The research allowed us to learn about the difficulties of nursing staff working in the emergency service which affect personalized patient care, likewise the lack of continuous training of the staff is recognized to be able to carry out the actions correct.
