Abstract

Burnout syndrome is considered by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an occupational disease with a significant impact on the physical and mental health of individuals. The objective of this study was to determine the incidence and factors associated with burnout syndrome in nursing staff at the Sucre University Social Security Hospital. Methodology: A descriptive and correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted with 39 nursing professionals selected using inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was applied, which assesses the dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low personal accomplishment. Results: The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), based on its three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment, found that this population has a large percentage at a low level, 56.41%, and 43.58% at a medium level. Conclusion: Burnout syndrome was detected in all participants, but mostly at low levels, which in one way or another manage to impact the health status of nursing staff.
