Abstract

Introduction: Inguinal hernias affect approximately 27% of men and 3% of women worldwide. The
TAPP (Transabdominal Preperitoneal) technique
represents a minimally invasive alternative with potential advantages over open surgery: less acute
pain, accelerated functional recovery, and a lower
risk of infection. However, challenges remain, such
as chronic postoperative pain (6%-15%) and recurrences (1%-3%), associated with technical variables and surgical experience.
Objetives: To evaluate the effectiveness of the
TAPP technique as a surgical innovation in the management of inguinal hernias at the San Francisco
Xavier University Hospital in Sucre (2018-2024).
Methods: An observational study with a quantitative approach and a descriptive design was
conducted. The sample included 22 patients who
underwent TAPP. Surgical time, hospital stay,
postoperative pain (VAS scale), complications, and
recurrence were assessed at the University Hospital of Sucre
