Abstract

Problem: What are the risk factors associated with acute diarrheal diseases in children under 5 years of age attending the Santa María Madre de DiosComprehensive Health Center in the municipality of Villa Charcas-Nor Cinti, between January and March 2024?

Objective: To determine the main risk factors as- sociated with acute diarrheal diseases in children under 5 years of age attending the María Madre de Dios Comprehensive Health Center in the munici- pality of Villa Charcas between January and March 2024.

Materials and Methods: The study is quantitati- ve, observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 180 patients who atten- ded the health facility. Of these, according to exclu- sion criteria, a total of 100 patients were included.

RESULTS:

The confidence interval (0.0067823 to 0.1108526) indicated a risk of diarrhea for this age group, from 6 months to 2 years, implying that the true asso- ciation could lie within this range. Furthermore, the chi-square value of 62.6783 indicated that the association between age and the presence of dia- rrhea is highly statistically significant.

Of the 100 participants in the study, 86 presented diarrhea with a diet that was more common in the 6 months to 2 years age group. There is a greater risk with complementary feeding and dietary diver- sification.

Environmental factors, as well as overcrowding, are statistically significant. Limited access to drin- king water and lack of sanitation facilities and ade- quate waste treatment are also risk factors.

Weather factors also have a greater influence in the summer season. We can add that malnutrition is an important risk factor.
