Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune
disease that primarily affects peripheral
joints, causing pain, stiffness, and
progressive deformities, as well as
potential extra-articular damage. Its global
prevalence ranges from 0.3% to 1.2%,
being more common in women between
the ages of 45 and 55. Early diagnosis and
timely treatment are crucial for preventing
complications and improving the quality of
life of patients.
Case Report: A 54-year-old female
patient presented with a one-year history
of joint pain, both nocturnal and diurnal,
accompanied by morning stiffness
lasting more than one hour, affecting
both upper and lower limbs. Laboratory
tests, including elevated rheumatoid
factor (RF) and anti-citrullinated protein
antibodies (Anti-CCP), confirmed the
diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, along
with microcytic anemia associated with
chronic conditions. Treatment was initiated
with methotrexate (DMARDs), along with
non-pharmacological measures such as
physical therapy to preserve joint function
and improve quality of life.
Conclusion: Early diagnosis and initiation
of treatment in RA are crucial to avoid major
complications, such as irreversible joint
damage and systemic involvement. This
case highlights the importance of timely
identification and proper management of
the disease to improve the quality of life
of patients.
