The investigation was carried out in an experimental area of the community of San Pedro del Zapallar,  Monteagudo Municipality, with the objective of evaluating the growth of orange plants and other accompanying crops in agroforestry systems (SAFs) in degraded soils and in a design nucleus with successional vegetation species. 45 plants were selected randomly, 15 in old successional nuclei (TI), 15 without nuclei (T2) and 15 in nuclei recently established (T3). The variables evaluated were growth in height, number of leaves, citrus plant health and number of accompanying species. The height of citrus plants in the T2 treatment presents the highest value with 82.8 cm followed by treatment T1 (76.27 cm). The variable number of leaves/plant didn’t show significant differences, being T2 the treatment which obtained the greatest value (143.00 leaves/ plant), followed by T3 (133.93 leaves/ plant). The biomass of the accompanying plants was similar, however Canavalia ensiformis presented the greater value (6.10 kg/0.80 mkg/0.80 m2), and Cajanus cajan (1.53 kg/0.80 m), followed by Zea mays (1.89 ). These growth values are found within the normal parameters, whereby agroforestry systems are an option for establishing citrus in the region. The technique of the SAFs contributed to incrementing the vegetation diversity and the agrobiodiversity in the plots for recovering the soil through incorporating biomass in the soil.
